Poppies

The Ranunculus have faded to make way for poppies to have their time in the spotlight, and what a statement they make!  From bright red, to soft pink, and every shade in between, the cheerful poppy lights up the garden.

There are many different types of poppies. I primarily grow Shirley Poppies (shades of red and pink), Icelandic Poppies (shades of yellow, orange, and sherbet), and a few called Pepperbox Poppies that come in shades of purple.

While strikingly beautiful, they are not super long lasting in the vase.  In order to extend the vase life, I will burn the end of the stem.  Believe it or not, this helps the poppy drink better! The petals remind me of tissue paper, and I love how they seem to dance in my garden. If you get a few tucked into your bouquet, I hope you'll be mesmerized by their dainty petals and cheerful colors!
